NW University Study Shows Pediatric Brain Tumors Shrunk by Cannabinoids in the Body

It has been the ECS Solution contention that the body's self produced cannabinoids (endocannabinoids) play a role in the suppression of tumors and actually kill cancer cells through various mechanisms. Remember, the body produces compounds in the body identical to that found in the cannabis plant. We can review literature on current endocannabinoid and cannabinoid compounds to see similarities in action.

In September of 2016 a new study from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine was published in the journal 'Child’s Nervous System'. They found that spontaneous involution of pediatric low-grade gliomas were associated with a high expression of cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) at the time of diagnosis may indicate involvement of the endocannabinoid system. Basically, the tumors shrunk due to more receptor sites available to catch the endocannabinoids to induce cellular death in cancer cells via apoptosis.

There are a myriad of clinical studies in human tissue culture and animals that show the multiple ways that cannabinoids actually kill cancer cells. Within the last couple of years we saw an Israeli study that showed a cannabinoid mixture from the cannabis plant killed 100% of the multiple myeloma cancer cells in 60% of the cultured cells within a 24-48 hours of treatment.

There are also numerous anecdotal studies claiming the cancer killing properties of cannabinoids in humans but until we have actual FDA trails with humans, it will not be confirmed by the medical community. Stay tuned as there is currently a double-blind randomized placebo FDA phase 2a trial for the treatment of Recurrent Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), treating glioma brain tumors.
