I have previously written on my hypothesis of eating certain omega fatty acid combinations and the effect it has on obesity and weight management through the activation of the endocannabinoid system. Basically, by eating a certain balance of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids your body is better satiated and therefore will crave less food. Remember, fats are our friend, when the balance of omega 3 & 6 is closer to 1 to 3. These omega fatty acids break down when ingested and have a great impact on the endocannabinoid system, a system which has a major influence over the immune system and inflammation in the body.
Recently we have confirmation of the role that the endocannabinoid system plays in obesity and weight management. The University of California, Riverside, just published data showing that chronic consumption of a western diet leads to overeating. When feeding mice a "western diet" that consisted of high fat and high sugar, the result was obesity.
Although the article does not specifically detail the kind of omega balance in the fat or the kind of sugar, my research shows it is likely an omega 6 dense fat and processed sugar being fed to the test subjects in the study. The scientists want to study further as to the specific food constituents that lead to the obesity in future trials. The conclusion I have come to on my website, backed up by scientific data and links, is that the lack of Omega 3or the imbalance of omega 3 to 6 in overall diet is the culprit for the obesity.
