Cannabis may Lower Risk of Diabetes

Cannabis has been shown to lower the risk of diabetes in early stage drug trials. The ECS (endocannabinoid system) has a major influence on how blood sugar levels are managed.

According to a recent study: “current marijuana use was associated with 16 percent lower fasting insulin levels . . . and 17 percent lower HOMA-IR (insulin resistance). . . . We found significant associations between marijuana use and smaller waist circumferences.”

We must also look at the food intake and how it affects the ECS. If positive results from cannabis use can be seen with diabetes, it is likely we can get similar benefits through diet and exercise that target the ECS receptors.

Most diabetics are encouraged to exercise and eat healthy. Perhaps if their diet focused more on the omega 3 and omega 6 balance they would see better results than just medication alone. However, not all omega 3s are the same, so learn about the differences here.
